Abundance mindset is a trendy topic right now. It is the idea that a person believes that there is enough to go around vs. a scarcity mindset which believes in win-lose. This idea has been around since at least the publication of Stephen Covey’s The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People.

If one believes there is enough to go around…

Enough talent, opportunity, money, and/or relationships…

Then why not pursue what one desires?

People need to believe they can be successful or they will not be motivated.

People who have an abundance mindset tend to be more creative, growth oriented, and resilient.

However, I often think things like:
Someone has already had that idea.
Other people are far more talented than me.
Who are you to believe you can add value.

Sound familiar?

Conquering scarcity thoughts is a key to achieving great things.

It turns out that a figure more wise than Stephen Covey talked about this.

God assures us of this via Paul in 2nd Corinthians 9: 8-11…

God can pour on the blessings in astonishing ways so that you’re ready for anything and everything, more than just ready to do what needs to be done. As one psalmist puts it,

He throws caution to the winds,

giving to the needy in reckless abandon.

His right-living, right-giving ways

never run out, never wear out.

This most generous God who gives seed to the farmer that becomes bread for your meals is more than extravagant with you. He gives you something you can then give away, which grows into full-formed lives, robust in God, wealthy in every way, so that you can be generous in every way, producing with us great praise to God.

The Message Version

Unlike what is believed by many people we shouldn’t just enact an abundance mindset as a mechanism solely for our own gain…we must enact it to benefit others and to point toward God.

God calls us to do God’s work, then enables us so we can be a blessing and a sign of God’s love in the world.

God is our abundance. Step out in faith!
